Description
Bradykinin is an autocoid released from endothelial cells during ischemia and reperfusion, and it has the potential to mitigate reperfusion injury. However, its benefits are limited because it is quickly inactivated by enzymes present on the endothelial cells. One such enzyme is aminopeptidase P2. To address this, we developed a potent and selective inhibitor of aminopeptidase P2, named ST-115, which is [(S)-2-mercapto-4-methylpentanoyl]-4(S)-fluoro-Pro-Pro-3(R)-beta-Pro. When administered intravenously at the onset of reperfusion, ST-115 effectively reduces the degradation of bradykinin.
