Small synthetic molecules, called growth-hormone secretagogues (GHSs), that stimulate the release of growth hormone (GH) from the pituitary through a G protein-coupled receptor (GHS-R). It has been demonstrated, however, to not possess the pituitaric and pancreatic endocrine activities of octanoylated ghrelin in humans.
